Hair Restoration and Transplant
Hair restoration is the surgical treatment for various forms of hair loss; the procedure involves moving follicular units from donor to recipient area. Hair restoration surgery was originally intended for male pattern baldness but gained popularity for treating female hair loss, eyelash loss and hair loss from trauma and burns.
Hair transplant surgery is performed on an outpatient basis. Mild sedations and topical anesthesia is injected, the donors scalp is cleaned and treated with an antibacterial chemical. The surgeon harvests a thin strip of scalp in an area of good hair growth, the wound is then closed. The strip of scalp is dissected into individual follicular unit grafts, removing excess fibrous and fatty tissues. The surgeon then uses small micro blades or needles to puncture the sites for receiving grafts, using a natural realistic hair pattern. In the beginning the patient new implanted hair will fall out taking two months to grow. It takes up to six to nine months for the patient to start growing normal thick hair.
