Uterine Fibroid Treatment
Uterine Fibroids is a benign tumor that originates from the smooth muscle layer and connective tissues of the uterus. Symptoms generally include gynecologic hemorrhaging, heavy painful periods, back pain, bloating, frequent urination, and pain during intercourse. If pregnant it could be the cause of miscarriage, bleeding, and premature labor.
Before the procedure the patient must under go pelvic imaging, and an ultra sound or MRI to measure the size of the uterus. Next endoscope procedure is done to evaluate the inside and outside of the pelvic region in preparation for embolization surgery. Uterine Artery Embolization is a non-evasive non-surgical procedure that is performed under local anesthesia. The incision is about the size of a freckle made on your upper thigh, a tiny catheter injects particles into blood vessels that supply the fibroids. The recovery time is quick, most patients return to work within a few days.
