Breast Reduction
Reduction mammaplasty removes fat, tissue and skin making breast smaller firmer and lighter. This procedure can also reduce the size of your areola, the darker skin around your nipple. Breast reduction is usually performed for physical relief rather then for cosmetic esthetics. Heavy large breast can restrict activities as well as cause physical pain. The best candidates are women with large pendulous breast or gigantomastia. She would have chronic pain in her neck, back, head, shoulders and headaches because of the weight of their breasts. For these reasons insurance usually covers this procedure. Except for unusual cases the procedure is performed on individuals with fully developed breast. Breast reductions are not intended for women who want to breast feed. The surgeon will make three incisions for a breast reduction. One incision is made around the areola, second incision goes vertically down from the areola to the breast crease; the last incision follows the natural curve of the breast crease. The surgeon removes excess fat, tissue breast and skin; the areola and nipple are shifted higher. Most likely the areola has been stretched out from large breasts; the surgeon will reduce the size.
